Here are some stories and poems that Mrs. Cray's third grade class wrote about Johnny Appleseed and apples.

Johnny Appleseed
By: Maggie

Johnny Appleseed was a Massachusetts farmer. He always used to help his Pa on his farm. Johnny Appleseedıs real name was John Chapman. Johnny Appleseed traveled all around the world. First, he would find a nice, sunny spot to plant the seeds. Second, he would dig a nice little hole with his hand. Last, he would put the seed in and cover it up in sunlight. He wore a pot for a hat, and he carried a big backpack of apple seeds with him. He would make friends with any animal like bears, snakes, horses, and anything else, you just name it. Johnny loved animals. But, when Johnny was real sick the Indians took care of him with all sorts of medicine. When he was healed they gave him medicine like aloe vera and more. That is why you should always think of Johnny Appleseed.

Johnny Appleseed gave one of the settlers appleseeds because they were going to Ohio. He told the settlers they had to put a fence around the appleseeds once they planted them. When Johnny went home his mother and father were there with food, a coat, and a cooking pan. Next, he had to walk across the state of Pennsylvania. Johnny liked to lay under the stars with furry bears with sharp claws. Once he was done planting in Ohio, he would keep planting in other places.

First, Johnny Appleseed left home in Ohio . The he started to plant apple trees. He planted hundreds of apple seeds or thousands of apple seeds, or maybe millions of appleseeds. Every bite Johnny Appleseed took out of an apple he enjoyed it. One day Johnny Appleseed saw people in a wagon and he could not believe they did not have a piece of fruit. So he wanted to give them appleseeds and an apple. But when he got to them he saw they had lots of food but he still gave them an apple and some appleseeds. Johnny Appleseed wanted to tell them how to plant an apple tree so he did. Then he went home to say goodbye because he was going to a different state. Once he got there, there was a blizzard. Not to long after that his life was done. When you take a bite out of an apple it may remind you about Johnny Appleseed.

First, his real name was John Chapman. Johnny Appleseed went all over the world to plant billions of appleseeds. Some people said that when he was born he came right out of the ground with a sack of appleseeds over his back. Johnny was born a long time ago before the Declaration of Independence was signed when America was still a group of English colonies. Johnny watched the pioneers and thought hard and often of the lonely life they would have building cabins and clearing forest land. He was sorry they couldnıt have hot apple tarts for dinner. He would have liked to give every family an apple tree to take to Ohio. The settlersı wagons were already full with things they needed from dishes to furniture. Even if Johnny could have dug up an apple tree, and even if it would have lived through the long journey, there was no way the settlers could have taken it with them. Somehow, he hoped they would get at least a few apple trees planted. Johnny knew all about planting, tending, and raising apple trees. When Johnny walked home, his mother had the food and the warm coat, and the cooking pan all packed. He said Iıll just wear my cooking pan. He looked funny.
