Writer's Workshop Folder

If you use Writer's Workshop, or Writing Workshop, with your students, they will need a writing folder. This may be a two pocket folder or it may be a 3-ring notebook. With the youngest writers, it might even be a construction paper folder. Whatever you use, children need a place to keep their works in progress, and they need Writer's Tools.

The Writer's Tools are those things which teachers who use Writer's Workshop feel must be permanent parts of the student writing folder or notebook. Here are some things which you may want to include:

  • Portable Word Wall Sheets
  • Personal Topics Graphic Organizer
  • Finished Pieces List
  • A copy of the Spelling Strategy
  • A Helping Hand Graphic (a hand with 5 fingers labeled Who, What, Where, When, Why)
  • An list of grade-level appropriate editing marks
