Quiet/Noisy Poems

Crowd roaring at the players.
Baseballs getting hit every which way.
Popcorn people yelling, trying to sell popcorn.
And me, cheering for the Phillies, listening

Ants going tiptoeing.
Spiders catching small bugs in their webs.
Stink bugs stinking up places.
And me, checking myself for bugs, listening.

Pencil sharpeners rumbling.
Different pencils moving across the paper.
Erasers rubbing out mistakes.
And me writing a poem, listening.

Wind rushing around in the air.
Leaves dropping one by one.
The fence shaking and clanging.
And me, relaxing on the hammock, listening.
By Hayden

Tapshoes tapping out loud.
Dancers fluidly dancing.
Music blaring out of the stereo.
And me, sitting down watching joyfully, listening.

Family and friends cheering on the team.
Cleats thumping against the soccer ball.
Kids calling for other kids to pass the ball.
And me, sitting on the bench, listening.

Cartoons shouting out.
Disney channel going on and off.
On Demand visiting when nothing else is on.
And me, sitting on the couch, listening.

Rumbling as if a hurricane hit.
Cleaning dishes and bowls.
Along with shiny utensils.
And me, sitting at the table, listening.
By Megan

Snow drifting slowly to the ground.
Sun rising over the horizon.
Wind swirling through the trees.
And me, shoveling the sidewalk, listening.

Soldiers fighting on the battlefield.
Guns firing through the night.
Men screaming out in pain.
And me, tears stinging my eyes, listening.

Birds chirping quietly to one another.
Flowers blooming in the sun.
Squirrels searching for nuts to eat.
And me, swinging on the swings, listening.
By William

Planes landing on the runway.
People chatting, waiting to get on.
Engines roaring noisily.
And me, gazing at the wonderful machines, listening.

Rain pouring on the ground.
People playing games in their house.
Cars splashing through puddles on the street.
And me, gazing out the house windown, listening.

Wind rushing in the sunset.
Bugs shooting off of branches.
Leaves rustling as woodpeckers peck the tree.
And me, sitting on the porch swing, listening.
By Harry

Burning lava exploding out of an enormous volcano.
People running in terror.
Hot ash pouring down on the burning cities below.
And me, running away from lava trying not to get burned, listening.

Furniture spinning in circles.
Dust and wind colliding into a mixture of circles.
People screaming for help.
And me, trying not to get sucked in, listening.

Balls of ice pounding on the window, trying to get in.
Windows cracking with a big THUD.
Balls flying everywhere.
And me, hiding in a crammed up cupboard, listening.

A gigantic wave over a hundred feet high, crashing over houses.
People getting drowned in the water.
Lifeguards murmuring, "Oh, man." and running away.
And me, trying to get away as fast as I could listening.

The solid Earth cracking for the first time.
People hanging off the ledge asking for someone to save them.
Cracks cutting through the Earth, like glass shattering.
And me, examining it in a helicopter, listening.
By Akhil

The wind rapidly rushing into my face.
Leaves getting bigger and greener by the second.
Rain drizzling out of the sky.
And me, walking into my house, listening.

Darkness spreading throughout the city.
People snoozing soundly in their beds.
As raccoons start to scratch trashcans, hoping to find food.
And me, lying in bed, listening.

Sirens screaming day and night.
Smoke alarms beeping very loudly.
People shouting for help.
And me riding in my car, going across the street, listening.
By Mayeesha

Wii remotes clicking in the livingroom.
My little sister running around like a nut.
Cars rushing by our house.
And me, sitting on the couch, listening.

Leaves of all different colors falling in slow-motion to the damp ground.
The wind gracefully blowing through huge oak trees.
Raindrops pouring down and soaking everything.
And me, gazing out the windown, listening.

Butterflies fluttering in the afternoon sunlight.
Birds zooming through the bright blue sky.
A squirrel scurrying up a big maple tree.
And me, sitting at the lemonade stand, listening.
By Layla

Sticks hitting the ground.
The crowd cheering for thier team.
Coaches screaming and complaining about the calls.
And me, in my net and crease, just listening.

Fishing poles casting in the water.
Patient people on the dock, waiting for a bite.
People redocking and recasting.
And me, with my rod rolling up fish, listening.

Flat screens showing my favorite show.
My brother changing the channel to something loud.
Fighting Noah with something sharp.
And me, in the fight, listening.
By Maxwell

The faucet dripping water underneath the spigot.
Leaves falling from under the trees.
Peeking from the window, kids sleeping in their beds.
And me, sitting on the coach, listening.

Video games blasting out sounds.
Thunderstorms yelling at the trees.
Pouring rain from the sky.
And me, looking out of the window, listening.

Pizza getting cut into eight slices.
Pepsi being poured into a glass.
People praying before they eat.
And me, at the dinner table, listening.
By Sean

Rushing waterfalls tipping over a cliff.
A toucan squawking on a coconut tree.
Monekys co-oo-ing and ah-ahing.
And me, standing letting the light shower drip on my nose, listening.

Babies sleeping in a rocking cradle.
Mothers humming a traditional tune.
The moon shining through the window.
And me peeking through the crack of the door, listening.

Detention-silence.
Only the sound of pencils moving.
People whispering and passing notes.
And me, glad that I wasn't there, listening.

Firecrackers popping unexpectedly.
People jumping up with fright!
Sometimes causing a little fire.
And me, just laughing, listening.

One warm summer night.
Crickets rubbing their legs together.
Bats flying in caves.
And me, throwing bottles, listening.

Letter Poems

Dear tsunami,
How come you destroy nature and lives?
You disgust me with your power.
Your big wave whirls in the deep blue sea.
You are trouble stirring.
The way you rumble makes the world screech "Get ready! Danger is calling!"
I wish you would go away.
Sincerely,
Paige

Dear sun,
You're so bright, hot and big!
But why are you so big?
People at earth say you're just a giant star.
I don't believe that.
I say you're a ball of light.
You are big and yellow with blades coming out of you all over.
I wish I could have a heat proof suit so I can come real close and talk to you.
From,.
Max

Dear gentle rain,
I love how you have no anger towards us humans, and how you help us grow plants.
I miss you sometimes when you're not here to help me overcome my sorrow.
Why don't you come everyday?
Is spring your favorite season?
Your shining tears glitter and glow, why are you filled with sorrow?
It makes me want to cry.
Your damp smell makes is my favorite!
The trees sway and dance to the beat of tears.
I wish you'd answer my questions.
Wetly yours,
Mayeesha

Dear lightning
I love the way you light up the pitch black night sky.
Your yellowish white glow is like shining gold.
But then, in a second, you disappear.
Why do you have to do so much harm?
I wish you were nice, not mean, so I would appreciate you more.
Yours brightly,
Layla

Dear earthquake,
Why are you so disastrous?
When you rumble the earth cracks, houses fall to your feet but you don't care, you just sit cackling.
People run in horror.
How would you like it if you were them?
Even though you're disastrous, you're full of power, you're like a king.
I wish I had the power to stop your disasters.
From,
Cameron

Do you like being so destructive?
I think you just need a friend.
From,
Harry

Dear space,
I love the way you are so dark and mystic and how your stars shimmer in the night sky.

Yours truly,
Marissa

Dear rock,
Why are you so hard? I like the way you break windows.
You are so gray, rough and hot.
I wish you were made out of rubber so when I hit a window I won't get in trouble.
Truly,

Dear tornado,
Why do you swirl and destroy everything?
You hurt people and you make some of them go to heaven.
You destroy peoples homes.
You make me sick with your grayish swirling.
You come from the sky and crash down with lightning rumbling like drums.
Why do you hurt mother nature and animals?
I wish I can talk to you and talk about your bad problems.
Sincerely,
Sean

Dear sky,
Why are you blue?
You sit so high and guide the clouds around a planet named earth.

Dear moon,
I love how you shine so bright in the sky.
You're my only and best nightlight.

I wish I could fly to you and talk to you in person.
Yours truly,
Bethany

Dear watery waterfall,
Why are you so torrential?
You can kill someone with that much power.
I like how you protect animals and provide food to them.

I wonder if you are mad about something.
If you are, I wish you would get happy some how.
Yours truly,
Akhil

Dear flower,
What's your purpose?
Is it to be picked by boys and given to girls?
I mean, there's nothing wrong with that.

Your curious friend,
Daniel

Dear dirt,
Why do you make my feet always black?

From your friend,
Hayden

Dear tree,
I love how you stand so tall and proud.
