Rhetorical Question Poems

Wondering About Peanuts
by Nicky

I wonder if peanuts like it in the shell?
I suppose not because it's probably too dark.
They don't like to be crunched up into tiny pieces.
But they probably don't like to be eaten.
But maybe sometimes they get left in the bag and thrown away.

Pencils
by Quinn

I wonder if pencils like being pencils?
I suppose they don't because they get chomped up by the sharpener.
Then they would never get tall again.
After they're bought with all their friends, they have to say good bye.
They hate it when the eraser is too short.

Popcorn
By David

I wonder if popcorn likes to be popped?
I suppose they do.
They get bigger.
They never pop alone.
They make kids happy.

Water
by David

I wonder if water likes to get drank?
I suppose it does.
It will have a fun time in your digestive system.
They will turn into something new.
They will travel to a new city!

Squishy Grapes!
by Paige

I wonder if grapes like to get crushed down in your stomach.
I suppose they would not like it. Then it's like they're gone forever.
They would not like to go down your stomach because it would be growling too much.
And they missed their friends that are grapes.
And they don't like being smooched.

DNA
By Bertrand

I wonder if DNA can sense a fingerprint in the air?
I suppose it can't.
Because you can't put air in a DNA machine.
Because wind can take the print away before police know the news.
Because you can't see it!

Does The Sun Like Going Down At Night?
by Indigo

I wonder if the sun likes going down at night?
I suppose it does.
But it has to share the fame with the moon.
But at least it lasts longer in the summer when everybody enjoys it!
Maybe it gets tired and goes down because it's tired and its flame is burning out.

I'll never know.

Cats
by Emma

I wonder if cats like licking themselves?
I suppose they might not.
They might get a hair ball.
They're getting filth in their mouth.
If they are an outside cat and jump on fences they might get a splinter on their tongue.

Marker Feelings
by Kathleen

I wonder if markers like being used?
I suppose they don't because they give away ink.
They go in the smell garbage when all their ink runs out.
Sometimes their points get torn, cut, and worn off.
I think they get tired of their color sometimes.

Trees
by Grace

I wonder if trees like being trees?
I suppose they don't.
Because they get cut down.
And also get chopped down into little tiny pieces for paper.

I wonder if pizzas like getting cooked?
I suppose they do.
They will be fresh.
They will be hot.
They will have friends.

Steak
by Maya

If I was cut into tiny pieces it would hurt.

I Wonder
by Mikey

Why Dogs Chase Their Tails
by Lauren

I wonder if dogs like to chase their tail?
I suppose they do.
Because they do it a lot.
Because they want to eat their tail.
Because they want to run in circles!

Bears
by Blake

I wonder if bears like having sharp teeth?
I suppose they do because they kill prey.
Maybe they could go hunting with their teeth.
They might steel your food.
They could really protect themselves.

Flying South
by Jack

I wonder if birds like flying south in the winter?
I suppose not. They have to fly a long distance and leave their nest.
They also have to fly back and make a new nest.
Sometimes they're pregnant and they have to lay their eggs.
And their wings get tired.

I Wonder
by Mrs. Rizzuto

I wonder if each star has someone making a wish on it?
I suppose most have had someone notice their twinkling.
I have a favorite one that waits for me.
It's comforting to know it is always there.
No matter where I am, or where I travel,
my star is always precisely where I saw it last.
My star wishes are my prayers.
