What To Do If You Are . . . Poems
These poems were written by Mrs. Laurence's students and their 5th grade reading buddies, buddies who also had Mrs. Laurence and did the Poetry Project 3 years ago!

Things to do if you were a coconut:
Hit people on the head.
Hang from a tree.
Get eaten.
Squash bugs.
Fall off a tree.
Sam-5th and Reed-2nd

Things to do if you were a bear:
I would be covered in hair.
I would catch lots of fish and that is my wish.
In winter I would sleep and in the summer I would swim deep.
By Conner-2nd and Mack-5th

If you were a dog:
If you were a dog, you'd bark at cars.
If you were a dog, you'd sleep under the stars.
If you were a dog, you'd eat a lot.
If you were a dog, you'd like what you got.
Each and every single day, you'd chase the mailman away.
Oh, I'd hate to be a hog,
But I would love to be a dog.
By Mackenzie-5th and Conner-2nd

Things to do if you were a flower:
I would open up and sprout my leaves.
Then grow into a flower.
I would grow high.
I would smell sweet.
I would sway the way the wind blew.
I would face the sun.
That's what I would do if I were a flower.
By Sarah-2nd and Nell-5th

Things to do if I were a book:
If I was a book, I would, I would be read all day.
People would skim me all day long.
I would have a nice red cover.
I would have lots of pages.
My story would be about a dog.
By Madeline-5th and Olivia-2nd

Things to do if you were a piranha:
Go hunting.
Hide behind something.
Get mad.
Attack other animals and eat their flesh.
Be under water every second of my life.
By Caleb-2nd and Tyler-5th

If you were a sign you would:
Tell people where to go.
Tell people to stop.
Warn about things.
Remind people of the rules.
Stand at the side of the road.
Be hit by a car.
By Max-2nd and Jane-5th

Things to do if you were paper:
You can fold me in half.
You can make snowflakes.
You can make pictures.
You can send me to friends.
You can make stories with me.
When you read this poem, you see me.
By Jackie-5th and Michaela-2nd

Things to do if you were a monkey:
Climb trees.
Swing across a waterfall.
Swing on the Empire State Building.
Eat fruit.
Be attractive.

Try not to be caught.

Eats dog food.

Things to do if you were a flying frog:
I would climb the Empire State Building.
Jump off of it.
Snatch bugs with my tongue.
Scare people with my shadow.
By Tyler-2nd

Things to do if you were a thunderstorm:
Be loud.
Scare people.
Shake the ground.
Light flashing.
Be wet.
Knock over things.
Catch things on fire.
Make people scream.
Flood places.
Knock trees over.
Hurt people.
Strike things.
By Rhetta-2nd and Caroline-5th

If I were a car, I'd:
Travel.
Do stunts.
Have gas.
Go fast.
Race.
Leak oil.
Go honk-honk.
Crash.
Do sharp turns.
Ram things.
Make roadkill.
By Thomas-2nd

If I were a cloud:
I would rain on all the flowers and plants.
But never on Dollywood.
I would never do a thunderstorm.
On a hot day, I would rain in the lake to fill it up.
I would be pure white.
By Palmer-5th

If I were Lauren, I'd:
Go to the mall.
Do my hair.
