Snow capped Rocky Mountains grace the western horizon,
Nestled among them lies the protected area of the national park.
The shaggy elk graze in the open spaces at the lower elavations,
Filling themselves with sustenance,
Necessary for the hike into the high alpine country,
To rear their calves during the short sunny summer season.
by: Mrs. Godley
Mangroves around every bend as
we glide on top of the water.
Colorful birds hunting for food in the shallow river.
The outrageous noise of
The airboat skimming along.
And an alligator, creeping to find its prey.
By Ally
Water descending upon the rocks.
Sunshine glistening across the surface water.
The rocks covered in green moss.
The mist changes into a rainbow.
The water splashing into the air.
By: Cammy
Snapshot Poem
By: Emma
Crabs crawling on the ocean floor running in all directions,
The dolphins flipping in mid-air as we glide across the glassy water.
Fish swimming in groups, viciously feeding on prey.
A gorgeous sun rising in the east and setting in the west.
And the look on one's face
When they reel in the largest fish you ever laid your eyes upon.
The immense and beautiful ocean with refreshing breezes,
Rocking boats in its sapphire waves.
Cool water splashing against my feet.
And a tiny white crab scurrying on the warm sand,
While a pod of dolphins leap off shore.
By: Anthony
Clear, Cold, Blue water boiling from the spring,
Making its way to the current of the river,
Small fish swimming from the dark caves,
Leaves falling to the water and making mini rpples,
Bubbles rising from the divers under the water.
by Trent
Light sparkled on the golden gates of Central Park Zoo.
Sun glistened in the shimmering sky.
Fluffy polar bears played rambunctiously.
Small penguins frolicked in the clear water.
Pigeons soaring through the radiant atmosphere.
By Alexis
Sandy umbrella-filled land, covered in grotesque shells,
With creatures scurrying about.
The Fiddler crabs running along,
With their harmful claws reaching.
The grey Dolphins splash about.
Flat sand-dollars fill the spaces of the ocean floor.
And the orange sun is shining up in the sky.
By Matthew
Seated around the bountiful table,
my brother, mom, dad, sister, and me.
Witnessing mountains of mashed potatoes,
A bowl of parsley, a small squash,
And a huge plate of roast beef!
Wine for my mom, dad, and brother,
but grape juice for my sister and me.
All of the foods on the seder-plate,
and the aphicomen, hidden under a napkin.
By Eric
Schools of countless fish swimming elegantly in the water.
Hiding in expertly hidden dens where people intrude.
Massive rock formations serving as a creature's home.
Colorful coral with lobsters on them.
Wrecks of old ships hospitalizing animals.
~Kyle
Sparkling clear blue water.
A bright tube trailing behind.
Energetic kids swaying back and forth happily.
The speedy boat ripping through the bright water.
The Gulf consuming the losers of the grip.
By Hank
An array of majestic colors
Dancing across the calm night sky that leads toward the night,
Which lies on top of a dark blue water
And a soft sandy beach with foot prints from the warm day.
The sea turtle walks across the beach,
Ready to give the magical birth of life.
She digs with her flippers constantly so, when the deep hole is done,
She can lay her white soft-shelled eggs, cover them
And be on her way to the vast deep sea,
And as she leaves the sandy beach,
She knows that her duty is done,
And that she may begin the long trek
Across the mysterious sea once again.
By: K.J.
Yellowstone is packed with worldwide tourists,
And tons and tons of sights to see.
Steam shoots out of geysers, grabbing all of the attention.
The smell of sulfer is filling the air around the mud pot.
The bears are hunting for a great, big salmon dinner.
By J.P.
Hidden, bright, plastic eggs with colorful jelly beans
And melting chocolate hidden inside,
All across the weedy two acres of my yard.
My little brother, sister, and two cousins run from behind me to go seek,
All holding their new Easter baskets to put the eggs they find in,
Finally, when we finish,
We all eat the delicious gooey goodies hidden inside.
~Kaitlin
While the grass upon the hills does its own dance,
The wind brings clean scents, the scent of nature.
Deer and cows graze on the abundant greenness,
Issuing off the noise of crunching plants.
The essence of spring fills the air and my eyes.
~Meghan.
Snap Shot Poem
By Jack
The Costa-Rican volcano illuminates the midnight sky,
The shower of sparks it lets loose
Reveals the silhouette of the mountain.
The small bits of fire mix with the stars in the Central- American sky,
Then they float slowly downward
And disappear suddenly in the dark jungle below.
I watch this until the clouds drift across, shrouding my vision of it.
Warm saltwater waves clapping on the beach,
Seaweed cleverly hidden within them.
Sand castles towering above the sand,
To be melted by the waves,
And cast away into the deep blue sea.
By Jonathan
Water glistening in the sunlight.
The little white boats skimming the calm surface.
The sight of the burning yellow sun.
The crashing against the rocks.
The vanishing horizon at the waters end.
By: Nick
The Eiffel Tower stands immense and proud
With four helpers rising through the legs.
Tourists waiting in a line to get lifted to the top.
The lights flashing on its legs.
Seeing dots at the top which would those that have succeeded.
The lights flickering at the tip-top that are brightly seen.
~Isabelle
The Grand Canyon turns to a dazzling red as the sun rises,
Its looming silhouette dark against the pale sky.
The sun falls upon the ancient Indian writing making it glow bright.
The icy water crashes against the walls below.
The rainbow trout glides silently along the freezing river
That carves the Grand Canyon.
By: Alexandra
Mist Covered Smokey Mountains poking into the sky,
A firm form of land reaching to the heavens.
Thick fog hovering just below the top,
Like a man with a long white beard.
Wide cascades of forests filling the space between each mountain.
Water rushing down a runway of obstacles.
By: Zach
Calm waves in front of the setting sun.
Bright eyes glowing as waiting people watch the sunset.
Gigantic clouds of hungry fish.
Searching for things to feast on.
Swimming quickly by you like you're not even there.
How beautiful the ocean looks, the dark shade of glowing indigo.
By: Hannah
Snapshot Poem
By: Bianca
Cheerful dolphins feeding on the mullet,
Playing and splashing as they go.
My radiant sister paddling over to them,
The dolphins popping enthusiastically up a few feet away,
I watch them glide into the glowing sunset.

What To Do If You Are . . . Poems
|
|
What to Do if You are a Cabbage Palm
Shelter spiders and snakes.
Fan us on a hot day.
Provide sisal for Seminole Indians.
Cluster with others for an oasis.
Produce fronds for thatch roofs.
Spin thread among the fronds.
Yield a heart for food.
Supply wood for a canoe.
By Mrs. Godley
What to do if you're scared:
Hug your favorite stuffed animal.
Bite your nails.
Think of all your favorite things.
Cuddle with your family.
Hum your favorite song.
Curl up in a ball.
Hide under your covers.
Close your eyes.
Disguise your feelings so no one knows you're actually scared.
~Kaitlin
What to do if I were a cartoon
Drop anvils on everyone.
Stretch my arms to grab things.
Steam up when I'm mad.
Throw pies at things.
Talk in more than one voice.
Laugh in a funny way.
Turn white when I'm scared.
By J.P.
What to do if you were a cat...
Scratch people who hurt you.
Sleep on the bed all day.
Stretch when you wake up.
Whine when you want food.
Run from strangers.
Hiss at unwanted visitors.
Lounge blissfully on the sofa.
Purr when you get petted.
By Jonathan
What to do if you were a pro baseball player...
Fire the ball down the strike zone.
Smack the ball into the outfield.
Play almost everyday.
Scoop up ground balls with ease.
Make spectacular catches.
Fly around the bases at full speed.
Move the runners into scoring position.
Throw runners out at the plate.
Score the winning run in extra-innings.
By Matthew
What do you do if you are water.
Splash people at the local pool.
Hit the top of tin roofs.
Quench a person's thirst.
Rain on people's heads.
Run through rivers.
Boil in a pot.
Spray a garden of flowers.
Wash a person's hands with soap.
by: Trent
If I were a pioneer I would*
Play with complex wooden toys,
Die my wool in natural plant dies,
Pan for shimmering gold to sell or keep,
Grind wheat to make flour,
Wash filthy clothes all day,
Make scrumptious corn bread to eat with dinner,
Go to bed at sunset and wait for the colorful sun to rise.
By: Emma
What to do if you are a millionaire,
Acquire an incredible Lamborghini.
Buy an immense mansion.
Hire a grand personal chef.
Find the biggest and best pool possible.
Shop for an unbelievable basketball court.
Bargain for a huge tennis court.
Search for the finest entertainment system you can find.
Obtain two golden and well trained dogs.
Make a slick deal to get an arcade.
Purchase any thing that you want that I didn¹t’t mention.
By: Anthony
What you would do if you were a dog...
Play with a tennis ball.
Leap for a treat.
Bark at your owners.
Pull against your master with a rope.
Chase after a stick.
Sprint after a speedy ball.
Jump on beds.
Slobber on your shirt.
Snuggle on the couch with you.
By Eric
What to do if you are heat...
Wrap around people on a cold, Winter, night.
Warm the dog laying on the hearth.
Rise from fire.
Help dad cook dinner.
Melt the snow when Spring comes.
Fill a sauna.
Cling to people on a hot day.
Reign over the desert.
By: Mary
Things I would do if I was a cat,
Meow all night to the wondrous sky.
Climb up on tall stools.
Sleep all day.
Play with my dazzling toys.
Run around the house.
Have fun with my owner.
Eat cat food.
Claw at the frisky lizards.
By Alexis
What would I do if I were a stone.
By Jack
Skip across a pond.
Pave a path.
Hurl towards a target.
Get buffed and polished.
Break a window.
Ruin a farmer’s field.
Stub someone’s toe.
Get smoothed out by the rain.
Form crystals on me.
Sink to the bottom of the ocean.
What I would do if I am a gymnast,
Practice my routine,
Compete in events,
Train for hours,
Be limber, strong, and balanced,
Follow my coaches advice and directions,
Make sure I am calm before I compete,
Wake up sore in the morning from last night's stretches,
Win gold medals.
By Gianna
What To Do If You're A Chef
Scramble scrumptious eggs.
Grill juicy hamburgers.
Mash buttery potatoes.
Bake saucy lasagna.
Scoop flavorful ice cream.
Fry tasty chicken.
Roll luscious sushi.
Cook delectable, delicious, appetizing food.
Then taste it.
By Ally
What would I Do if I were the Sun
By: K.J.
Supply humans heat.
Make nutrients for trees.
Evaporate water.
Give tourists sunburns.
Provide light to play.
Give inventors solar power.
Supply heat and light to tan.
Blind people's eyes.
What to do if you were a football.
Thrown down field by a quarterback for a touchdown.
Kicked in a yellow field goal.
Hiked between a centers legs.
Intercepted by the defense.
Carried down the field.
Beat up by the football pads.
Slammed to the ground after every touchdown.
Thrown in the air after a win.
By: Nick
What I would do if I were a star...
Beam in the moonlight,
Let people make wishes on me,
Shoot across the sky,
Be scorching hot all night long,
Make friends with the moon,
Shine for someone who's lost their way,
Disappear when the sun comes out,
Shatter into a million vibrant pieces.
~Bianca

Discipline without detention?
Can You Imagine?
By Bianca
The ocean without glowing, glittering fish?
The glorious sky without marshmallow clouds?
A shark without a stuffed mouth of sharp teeth?
The beach without its soothing sand?
Oranges without their sweet, tangy taste?
Tourists without flaky sunburns?
Waves without foamy suds everywhere?
The Sunshine State without palm trees?
The sunset without its famous shades of pink and orange?
Can you imagine?
By: Emma
A night without stars?
A road without cars?
A book without words?
A nest without birds?
A beach without sand?
An arm without hands?
An ocean without water?
A summer without getting hotter?
Can you imagine...
By: Meghan
Salt without pepper?
A fish without water?
People without nature?
School without teachers and students?
A story without an author?
A baby without its toy?
A bedroom without a bed?
Winter without the cold?
Summer without vacation?
