    JACK AND THE BEANSTALK

Jack and his mother were very sad. "We have no money for food," said mother. "Jack I want you to go to town and sell our cow, all right."

"Ok. I will be back soon," said Jack. On the way Jack met an old woman. She had a bag full of magic beans.

"Do you want to trade?" squeaked the old woman.

"OK," Jack said. He traded the cow for the beans. When he got home his mother was mad.

"I asked you to go to town for money not beans!" She threw the beans out the window. Jack went to bed with no dinner. After a while the beans started to grow. The vine grew and grew until it grew up to the sky.

"Wow! I want to live there someday," said Jack.

"You could," said an old man.

"I could? Hey! Wait a minute. Who said that?" asked Jack.

"I did," said the old man.

"How could I get to live in the castle at the top of the beanstalk?" asked Jack.

"Make the giant fall down from the top of the beanstalk," said the old man. So Jack tried to get the giant over to the beanstalk.

"Hey giant come over here," said Jack.

"I'm going to get you!" said the giant. Jack jumped down from the top of the beanstalk. He called for the ax and cut down the beanstalk. Down came the giant. BAM! The giant died and Jack and his mother lived happily ever after.

    JACK AND THE BEANSTALK

Once upon a time there was a good little boy named Jack. He lived with his father. They were very poor. One day his father said, "We need food and money. Go take the cow to market."

"But she is my friend. Can we do something else?" asked Jack.

"No, she is the only thing we have to sell," his father said.

"OK," said Jack. So he took the cow to market. There he met an old man with a handful of magic beans.

The old man said, "I'll trade you these magic beans for that cow."

Jack said, "OK," and they traded. Jack ran home and showed his father.

His father looked at him and said, "Why did you trade the cow for beans?"

"The old man said they were magic," said Jack and gave the beans to his father. He got mad and threw them out the door.

The next day Jack went outside and he saw a tall beanstalk. He climbed it until he reached the top. He saw a giant castle. It belonged to a giant. The giant opened the door and said, "Fe fi fo fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman. Be he alive or be he dead, I'll grind his bones to make my bread." Jack crawled in. He saw a golden duck and a harp. He took them and ran down the beanstalk. He ran to the barn and got an ax and chopped down the beanstalk.

    KENDALL AND THE BEANSTALK

Once upon a time, there were three people--a mom, a dad, and a girl named Kendall. They had a cow named Blacky Night.

"We have no food and we need to sell Blacky Night for some money so we can buy food," said dad.

"I'll go and sell Blacky Night," said Kendall. So Kendall went out and saw a poor person who had a bag full of magic beans. She exchanged Blacky Night for the beans.

Kendall came home and showed her mom and dad and they said, "Go plant the seeds outside."

The next day mom looked out the window and saw a very tall beanstalk. "Kendall, why don't you climb the beanstalk," she said.

"OK," said Kendall and started to climb the beanstalk. She climbed so high that the ground was a speck. When she reached the top she saw a castle that had big flags with big G's on them. There were beautiful flowers and huge trees.

Kendall went in the castle and saw a harp, a golden goose that laid golden eggs, and a bag with gold coins in it. She took them and climbed down the beanstalk.

When she was climbing down she heard the giant say, "Fe fi fo fum, I can taste the blood of an English girl. So Kendall got to the ground fast and got the ax and chopped down the beanstalk. The giant fell to the ground and died. Kendall's family lived happily ever after.

    SARAH AND THE GUMDROP TREE

Once upon a time there was a little girl named Sarah. Sarah loved to garden. She collected seeds wherever she went. One day Sarah was bored so she decided to look through her seed box. She picked out the seeds that were her favorite colors. She picked all of the purple, blue, green, and pink ones. She planted 3 rows in her garden. She gave her garden a lot of sunshine and water. She went out every day and looked at the garden.

Sarah lived in a small cottage next to the candy factory. Her mom and dad owned the candy factory and she could eat candy any time she wanted. She ate chocolate chip cookies for breakfast, cotton candy for lunch, and French toast with chocolate syrup and sprinkles for dinner. Sarah ate so much candy she was sick of it.

Sarah went out to check her garden again. She was very sad because her garden just wouldn't grow. She reached into her pocket and found a gumdrop. She knew it was a special gumdrop so she planted it.

Sarah woke up the next day and there was a giant gumdrop tree in her garden. She climbed up to the very top. She went through the clouds and saw the most amazing garden ever. It had butterflies and unicorns and rainbows and flowers. She walked through her garden and found a rabbit. It was white with black spots and a little pink nose. She took the rabbit home and made it a warm bed. The next morning she woke up and checked on the rabbit. It had laid 20 golden carrots. Sarah knew that she was the luckiest girl in the whole world.

    MATT AND THE PEAR TREE

Once upon a time there was a small boy named Matt. He lived with his dad. One day his dad said, "Matt, we have no food. Go to the market and trade the rooster." Matt did not like doing chores but he did it anyway. He did like his rooster.

Matt saw an old wizard. He said, "I will trade you one golden seed for that rooster."

Matt said, "Yes!" He was so happy he ran up and down hills and took the shortest way home. When he got home he showed his dad the golden seed.

His dad was mad and said, "You were supposed to get food, not a magic seed. Go back and trade the cow for some money." Matt went back but when he saw the wizard he forgot what his dad had said. He traded the cow for more seeds. He went home and showed them to his dad. His dad was so mad he threw the seeds out the door and sent Matt to his bed for the rest of the day and night. Before the sun came up, Matt woke up and looked outside. There was a giant pear tree.

Matt was little but he loved big things, so he climbed up in the tree, up and up and up till he reached the top. He saw a big castle. He went in and saw a very big bird. Matt also saw a bag of gold. He was fast at everything except growing so he ran and snatched the bag of gold and ran down the tree. Then he burned the tree.

He went to the market and gave the wizard a golden coin so he could get his rooster and cow back. Then Matt bought food and went home. He and his father were happy.

    JACK AND THE BEANSTALK

In a far off land, a boy named Jack was complaining. "Mother, I have nothing to do," said Jack.

"Go sell the chicken. We have too many," replied Mother.

That's exactly what Jack did. Along the way he met an old man. "Hello young lad," greeted the old man.

    "ErÖHi," replied Jack.

"Would you like to trade your chicken for some beans? They're magic," asked the old man.

"Hmm. Who needs beans? I don't. But wait a second. That old guy said they were magic. Mother would surely like that." Jack finally agreed.

Jack saw a townsperson. She said, "Hello Jack. Do you have anything to sell?"

"No I don't. I already sold my chicken, but I will sell you my watch," Jack said.

"No thanks," she said and walked away. Jack started to run back home. A salesperson tried to stop him. Jack didn't listen. Along the way Jack noticed a baby cow lying down. It appeared to be hurt. Jack ran over to get a closer look. It was hurt--very badly hurt. Jack ran all the way back to the village, and into the vet's office.

"Oh veterinarian, you've got to help this poor little cow. Blood is gushing out of its leg very fast," Jack said.

    "Take me there," she said.

That's exactly what he did. "There she is," said Jack. The veterinarian wrapped up the wound with gauze. Then Jack went home.

He said, "I have magic beans." Right after he said it, his mom threw the beans out the window. Jack was very upset. He went to bed. During the night, the beans grew and grew and GREW into a HUGE beanstalk.

When Jack awoke he was surprised because there was a huge beanstalk growing outside. He wondered what was up there, so he climbed all the way up. When he was finally at the top of the beanstalk, a beautiful castle was right before his eyes. "Oh wow," thought Jack. He was curious about this castle so he jumped right in through an open window. He saw a giant playing with a golden sword. A few minutes later, the giant fell asleep. Jack jumped out from his hiding place, grabbed the sword, and jumped out the window. The giant had woken up and was watching. He didn't really like the sword so he let Jack get away with it. Jack left the sword in the forest and climbed down the beanstalk.

The next day Jack went up the beanstalk again. This time the giant was playing with a swan that laid silver eggs. "LAY", he commanded. The swan obeyed and laid an egg. Then the giant fell asleep again. Jack grabbed the swan and jumped out the window. Again, the giant woke up and watched him. He didn't really like the swan, so he let Jack get away with it too. Jack hid the swan with the sword and went down the beanstalk.

The next day, Jack went up the beanstalk again. This time the giant was playing with a magic harp. Just then the giant went into the next room. Jack was peeking through the door. When the giant left the room, Jack ran in, grabbed the harp, and started to run for the window whenÖ."G-R-R-R!" The giant had jumped in front of Jack. Jack jumped out the window. The giant tried to jump after him but he couldn't fit through the window and got stuck. Jack took the things from the woods and went down the beanstalk. He told his mother about everything. They lived happily ever after.
